Arba’een 1437 –Volunteer at a mawkib during the Najaf to Karbala Walk!

Updated on 12 March 2018

Every year during Arba’een, men, women and children of all ages take part in the 80km walk from Najaf to Karbala (N2K). This is done by millions of people to commemorate and remember what the members of the Ahlulbayt (as) had to endure so many years ago. The walk typically lasts for anything between one to four days and is described by many as a ‘once in a lifetime experience’.

During these few days, one aspect of the walk which contributes greatly to the overall experience is the work of the dedicated volunteers at the thousands of mawkibs (out-posts) during the walk. So many people line the streets ready to provide fuel and motivation to those taking part in the walk. People serve tea and food, whilst others offer foot massages and shoe repairs. There are children cleaning the streets and giving out refreshments. The atmosphere is one of togetherness and strength. Many people who have taken part in this walk have said it wouldn’t be the same without this support and that’s what gave them the ability to carry on when they began finding it difficult.

The World Federation has worked closely with a ‘mawkib’, located on the route, which offers:

·

Rest and recuperation;

  • ·

    Overnight sleeping facilities;

  • ·

    Food and drink; and

  • ·

    Medical facilities

In previous years, our volunteers have been serving many thousands of meals a day and offering necessary medical assistance to the many people who need it. These services enhance the experience of the participants in a significant way and we are honoured to be of service to them.

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist at the mawkib this year who will too have the honour of serving the guests of Imam Husain (a.s.). It truly is an unforgettable experience to be a part of this event and being of help to the participants.

If you would like to volunteer, please email secretariat@world-federation.org with your details and the dates you would like to volunteer at the mawkib. You can go for as long or as little as you like!
