According to the United Nations, Iraq is struggling with one of the largest internally displaced populations in the world - an estimated 1.8 million people - because of the extremist insurgent group known as ISIS (Da’esh). The UN has declared this humanitarian crisis as a ‘level three emergency’ – the highest possible emergency level. As of October 2015, over 705,000 refugees have fled to Europe on unseaworthy boats and dinghies across the Mediterranean Sea. More than 3,200 refugees have died or are missing. In response to this emergency, The World Federation and the Council of European Jamaats (CoEJ) partnered to provide humanitarian aid to the thousands of refugees arriving on the Greek island of Lesvos.
