Meet the mentors on the Madinah and Bab Summer Course 2014 – Part 4

Updated on 12 March 2018

Sister Laila Habib – Nairobi, Kenya (currently studying in Qum)

Laila completed her HND in business management and has been studying in Qum for the past three years.  Laila says, “I came here on a spiritual quest and every experience and hurdle is a step closer to its attainment. This course is also one of those opportunities to attain something higher and maintain it together.”

Sister Zehra Ali – New Jersey, USA (currently studying in Qum)

Zehra grew up in the United States and recently moved to the holy city of Qum to pursue Hawza Studies. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Women and Gender Studies at Rutgers State University. Zehra was actively involved in working with different Muslim Organisations in the United States, both Shia and Sunni. Over the past two years, she has had the opportunity of working and getting to know different youth groups across the States.

Zehra says, “Being able to go for the Ziyarat of any of the Aimmah is often the most spiritually developing experience of our lives. This coupled with the unique opportunity of staying so close to haram, being emerged in the spiritual discussions, is nothing short of an awe-inspiring experience and will no doubt change us. It is really humbling to be given the opportunity to be a part of this amazing effort.”

Bashir Ahmed Datoo, in his latest book ‘Bookend Revolutions, In Islamic History’, revisits the revolution that took place at the time of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w) and closes with the revolution that will occur under the leadership of the Imam Mahdi (a).

I remember one of the mentors telling me how much this trip changed her life, and I distinctly remember being very sceptical. After all, it was only a ziyaraat trip wasn't it?
